Timo Nikisch

Designer, Researcher, Developer

Hey there nice to meet you! I’m Timo Nikisch, an AI engineer with a background in architecture, working at the intersection of computation, design, and complex real-world problems. My work focuses on understanding and structuring complexity: translating messy, interdependent problems into systems that can be analyzed, modeled, and ultimately improved through technology. I come from an architectural background, which strongly shapes how I think. I approach problems spatially, systemically, and holistically, always considering how individual components interact within a larger context. Over time, this perspective led me deeper into computational design, data-driven methods, and artificial intelligence. Today, I work on building intelligent systems that connect spatial data, algorithms, and human decision-making in meaningful ways. I am currently pursuing a research-based Master’s degree in Design & Computation at UdK and TU Berlin, while working as an AI engineer at a startup focused on intelligent tools for real estate and urban analysis. My work spans the full pipeline, from data engineering and modeling to prototyping, evaluation, and interface design. I enjoy working end to end: understanding a problem deeply, breaking it down into its components, designing a system around it, and iterating until it becomes robust and usable. What drives me most is tackling complex, ambiguous challenges where there is no obvious solution. I enjoy navigating uncertainty, learning new domains quickly, and building structures that bring clarity to complexity. I’m particularly motivated by projects that sit at the intersection of technology, society, and the built environment, where design decisions have tangible real-world impact. I thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with others to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and build better solutions together. Whether it’s developing models, designing systems, or exploring new research directions, I’m driven by curiosity, a hands-on mindset, and the desire to turn complexity into something understandable and useful.
